Vocabulary: what we’ve learnt so far…
It’s back to school and, as a team of English advisers, we’ve been mulling over what we’ve learnt about successful vocabulary teaching and how it can have an impact every day on children’s learning.
Our project schools noted promising results, and were sometimes surprised by improvements in areas that they hadn’t explicitly targeted. They’d experimented with a range of different activities and approaches to suit their schools.
Our teachers’ experiences were diverse so we’ve tried to spot common threads, and here summarise what we found out in the hope it could provide others with food for thought as we start the new school year.
