Clare Elsom

Clare is a children’s author and illustrator who lives in Exeter, Devon.

She is the author and illustrator of young fiction series Horace & Harriet, aimed at ages 5 and up. This highly illustrated series follows the delightfully silly and hilariously funny adventures of a 17th century statue called Horace, and a rather brilliant seven year old girl called Harriet. The series has been featured in Just Imagine’s Reading Gladiators reading scheme for 2018/2019.

"Clare Elsom has created lovable, unforgettable characters who jump off the page, grab us by the hand and pull us into their uproarious and delightful tale." Anna Tomlinson, TES

Clare has also illustrated dozens of popular children’s books, including the best-selling Flying Fergus series written by Sir Chris Hoy and Joanna Nadin. The Flying Fergus books sponsored the World Book Day award in 2018 and Clare regularly appears at literary festivals with Chris and Joanna, and was recently featured on Blue Peter.

"This usually involves a fun and energetic talk about being an author and illustrator, lots of live drawing, audience participation, a bit of story time and a chance for the children (and any adults!) to learn how to draw some of the characters or create their own characters, story or book cover.

I have flexibility on how things are run, and the content can vary depending on the group size, age range and time that we have.  I'm happy to incorporate any ideas you might have, or anything you'd specifically like covered."

To book a visit or find out more information, please contact Clare directly either by email; or phone: 07730652816.
