About Jan Lever MA, B.Ed (Hons), Adv. Dip. Couns.
Creator and CEO: Jigsaw, the mindful approach to PSHE and Discovery RE
Jan taught for 16 years from pre-school in America to a range of contexts in the UK from Primary to sixth form, managing RE and PSHE (Personal, Social, Health Education) departments and pastoral care programmes.
10 years as a Local Authority School Improvement Adviser, focussing on RE and PSHE, and leading government projects from Healthy Schools to Targeted Mental Health in Schools, as well as being the Lead Assessor and South West Regional Adviser for the national PSHE CPD Programme, gave Jan many opportunities to develop work in schools relating mental and emotional health to learning.
She is also a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist , and now, in her role and as CEO of Jigsaw PSHE and Discovery RE, brings these professional fields together writing teaching and therapeutic materials underpinned by mindfulness philosophy and practice.
Jigsaw PSHE 3-11 launched in 2013 and is already used by over 3500 primary schools in the UK and a growing number in 30+ countries from Thailand to the Netherlands, with Jigsaw PSHE 11-16 launched in January 2019, (both programme meeting statutory RSE and Health Education guidance).
Jan leads training sessions in many contexts in the UK and internationally, and remains passionate about children’s and young people’s mental health, believing the better this is and the earlier we get this right, the greater their capacity to learn and the richer the life chances afforded to them.
